Prototype

High Fidelity

Once I identified our branding and sketched out the wireframe, I began designing a high-fidelity prototype that seamlessly integrated all of the prior steps. My goal was to create a modern yet approachable feel for Renty that would make it easy for users to connect and navigate the platform.

Renty

Renty is an online platform that provides users with a wide range of property listings for rent, along with tools and resources to help them find and secure their ideal rental property.

Empathize

Competitive Analysis

As the UX researcher for Renty, I conducted a competitive analysis to understand how other rental property platforms were providing users with easy accessibility and organization features. The analysis involved exploring the strengths and weaknesses of our competitors' platforms to identify opportunities for improvement and to see if our solution was unique in the market. By analyzing the competition, we were able to see what was working and what wasn't, allowing us to develop a more effective solution that met the needs of tenants in a unique and user-friendly way.

User Interview and Personas

After conducting a competitive analysis, I moved on to gathering feedback from our target users to understand their rental property search process and identify any frustrations they've encountered with other platforms. To do this, I conducted user interviews and created personas to represent our target audience. This allowed me to gain insights into our users' needs, goals, pain points, and expectations.

Interview Debrief

After the user interviews, I gathered the responses to compare and contrast . This helped me put together a list of features for the MVP and post MVP.

User Personas

I created three personas to represent the main group of users.

Define

Problem and Solutions

When looking for the perfect rental property, it can be a daunting task, especially when users are looking for a platform that offers more than just a list of properties. Tenants often struggle to stay organized and communicate effectively with landlords, making the search for the perfect rental property frustrating and time-consuming.

Renty is designed with our users' needs in mind, providing them with a user-friendly experience that makes it easy to find, organize and communicate about their preferred listings. With dynamic listing views, an easy application process, and a collection page to keep track of their favorite properties, Renty is the perfect solution for tenants who want a comprehensive, all-in-one platform.

Minimum Viable Product

  • Seamless application process

  • Easy navigation for property listings

  • Dynamic filters

  • Collection of favorite listings

Ideate

Brand Identity

For the branding, I wanted the platform to convey a sense of seamlessness, collaboration, trustworthiness, and consistency. After careful consideration and research, I decided to go with the color purple as it best supported our vision and conveyed the qualities I was striving for. II noticed that many similar products in the market didn't use purple as their primary color, so I saw an opportunity to stand out and differentiate the product by using this color.

Low-Fidelity

After identifying the branding for our platform, the next step was to start designing a wireframe. Based on the user flow I created, I focused on designing a simple and intuitive process for the user. The wireframe design process was essential in creating a user-friendly and efficient platform for the users to search for rental properties and organize their preferred listings.

Reflection

Key Takeaways

  • User research is crucial for understanding the target audience and their pain points, which can then inform the design and development process.

  • Ideation is crucial. Taking the time to brainstorm and identify the problem, target audience, and MVP features can lay the foundation for a successful product.

  • Collaboration and teamwork are essential for a successful project. Working with a team allows for multiple perspectives and ideas to be shared, which can lead to better solutions and outcomes.

Next Steps

As I move forward with Renty, my next step is to start incorporating additional features that were planned for after the MVP launch. These include options for tenants to find roommates and sublet their spaces through Renty.

Summary

For this project, I was the lead UX/UI designer and researcher. After obtaining the project scope from the project manager and stakeholders, I performed research to understand the targeted users. Through research and rounds of user stories with the PM, we were able to come up with features and functionalities for the minimum viable product (MVP). I went above and beyond to design a performance review that was well-structured and provided valuable insights into the company's performance. The end result was a review system that not only helped the employee to better understand their strengths and weaknesses but also made the process more efficient for all users
